Stopbolton.org Launches Ad Campaign in Nebraska
Washington, DC – On Thursday, April 7th, Citizens for Global Solutions will
air television advertisements on three major Nebraska television stations in
opposition to the nomination of John Bolton for U.S. Ambassador to the United
Nations. The advertisements state that Bolton is the wrong man for the job
because of his desire to dismantle the UN rather than reform it.
The spots will air on April 7th at 6:00pm and 10:00pm on WOWT-TV (NBC), the
6:00pm and 10:00pm on KOLN-TV (CBS), and 8:00pm and 9:00pm on KPTM-TV (FOX).
The goal of the Stop Bolton campaign (www.stopbolton.org) is to convince
Nebraska Senators Chuck Hagel and Ben Nelson that John Bolton is not the
diplomat Americans want representing them at the UN. As a moderate Republican
and a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Senator Hagel’s stance
on the Bolton nomination will be crucial in determining the fate of U.S.-UN
relations. It won’t be easy for Senator Hagel to vote against a Presidential
nominee from his own party, therefore it is vital that local constituents
contact the Senator to let him know they want a “problem solver, not a loose
cannon” at the UN.
The Nebraska television ads follow on the success of similar TV and radio
advertisements that ran in Rhode Island. These ads had spectacular results with
over 500 calls being made to Senator Lincoln Chafee’s office persuading the
Senator to rethink his position. Citizens for Global Solutions also sponsored a
press conference which included Ambassador Jonathan Dean (www.diplomatsagainsbolton.org),
in Washington, DC on April 4, 2005.
www.stopbolton.org was launched on March 15, 2005, to illustrate the critical
nature of the U.S.-UN relationship and the need for effective UN reform, and to
make the case that John Bolton is the wrong man for the job. Based on his
history of derision for the United Nations and his poor performance as
Undersecretary, Bolton lacks the skills and credibility necessary to address
such key issues as North Korea's and Iran's nuclear programs, global poverty,
and making the UN more effective.
