Poetry Slam
Goes Virtual
Citizens for Global Solutions Hosts First-Ever Online
Poetry Slam...on the Environment
WASHINGTON DC – Citizens for Global
Solutions recently launched the nation’s first-ever Virtual Poetry Slam Contest.
The contest, already registering nearly 2,000 slam poets, is designed to educate
Americans about the relationship between healthy environments and healthy
communities.
Entries will be judged by two-time national slam poetry champion Buddy
Wakefield, the Blackout Arts Collective’s Nigel Greaves (D.C. Chapter), and
Washington D.C.’s Busboys and Poets owner Andy Shallal. The top two finalists
will win $500 and $250.
The Virtual Poetry Slam Contest asks registrants to creatively explore how a
healthy environment is integral in building a healthy community. The contest is
unique for two reasons. It is “virtual”—most slam poetry is live, with an
audience. It is “environmental”—most slam poetry addresses social issues. The contest emphasizes the environment and draws linkages between the social and the
environmental—and it does it online.
