H. R. 1196 - UN POPULATION FUND (UNFPA) FUNDING ACT OF 2003

This bill asks that the US voluntarily offers a contribution of $34,000,000 to the UNFPA, providing for family planning, contraception, and maternal and child health services.

To provide a United States voluntary contribution to the United Nations Population Fund.

This bill:

• Claims that population stabilization and improved status of women is due in part to the efforts of the UN, particularly the UNFPA.

• UNFPA assists primarily through the providing of voluntary family planning, maternal health, contraception, and child health services.

• Allows for a pre-appropriated $34,000,000 to be released to UNFPA.

• In the past, accusations of UNFPA complicity in the coercive practices of the Chinese government's family planning program existed; these allegations have been proven false.

• Allows for the limiting of funding to China if the country is not in compliance with the bill, human rights policy, and other criteria.
