Introduced on January 27, 2006 by Sen. William Frist (TN-R).

 • Condemns the Iranian government for defying their international nuclear nonproliferation obligations.

 • Under the Treaty of Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, Iran is obligated to the following: not to receive the transfer from any transfer whatsoever of nuclear weapons or other nuclear explosive devices or of control over such weapons or explosive devices directly, or indirectly; not to manufacture or otherwise acquire nuclear weapons or other nuclear explosive devices; and not to seek or receive any assistance in the manufacture of nuclear weapons or other nuclear explosive devices.

 • As a result of Iran’s failure to comply with the international community’s request, this resolution proposes that the UN Security Council, the Russian Federation, and the People’s Republic of China respond efficiently in order to maintain international peace and security.
