International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda Set to
Try Up to 70 by 2008
September 26, 2005 – In a report to the UN Security Council and the General
Assembly, the
International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) said it was on track
to complete trials for 65 to 70 people accused of committing genocide and
other crimes against humanity by 2008, the deadline provided by the Security
Council. According to the report:

22 people have been convicted
-
3 people have been acquitted
-
25 people are currently on trial
-
71 people have been arrested in connection with
genocide charges
