Ever since the Nuremburg war crimes trials, the United States has championed international law as a means to end impunity for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide while promoting American principles like due process, equality before the law and the protection of basic human rights.

History has taught us that justice for the worst crimes can be achieved through the promotion of international law and corresponding international institutions such as the U.N. and the International Criminal Court.
