ICC Sentences Can Be Carried Out in Austria
November 8 – In a historic move, Austria became the
first country to announce its willingness to allow sentences issued by the
International Criminal Court to be served within its borders. The
Federal Minister of Justice of Austria, Ms. Karin Gastinger, signed the
first Enforcement of Sentences Agreement with ICC President Philippe Kirsch
on October 27. According to Article 103 of the Rome Statute, ICC sentences
“shall be served in a State designated by the Court from a list of States
which have indicated to the Court their willingness to accept sentenced
