U.N. Human Rights Body Accuses Sudan of
Darfur Atrocities
March 15, 2007 -- An independent team of investigators commissioned by the
U.N. Human Rights Council delivered their report on the current situation in
Darfur to the Council in Geneva on March 12th. Although the Sudanese government
prohibited the High-Level Mission from entering Darfur to conduct its
investigation, the concluding report includes information about massive human
rights violations in the western region of Sudan.

Summons for Darfur Suspects
February 27, 2007 -- In his announcement from The Hague today, ICC Chief
Prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo requested a summons to appear for Ahmad Muhammad
Harun, former Minister of State for the Interior of the Government of Sudan, and
Ali Kushayb, a Janjaweed militia leader in Darfur. Both men have been accused of
working together, and on behalf of the government of Sudan, in committing 51
counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity against the Darfur people.

Diplomatic Pressure Mounts on Sudan
January 10, 2007 -- A flurry of diplomatic visits and pressure on Sudan to
act on Darfur occurred this week. Various envoys to Darfur or Sudan from the

groups conducted diplomatic missions to secure adequate protection for the
people of Darfur and jump-start the political peace process.

Sudanese President Accepts Peacekeeping

January 5, 2007 -- Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir accepted a package of
U.N. support for peacekeeping in Darfur. Originally agreed upon at a meeting in

created a disastrous humanitarian situation in Chad. With fresh violence and

Sudan Agrees "In Principle" to a
Stronger Hybrid U.N.-AU Force For Darfur
November 17, 2006 -- At a meeting convened by outgoing U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan and co-chaired by the Chairperson of the African Union Commission,
the Sudanese government agreed "in principle" on November 16 to a mixed United Nations-African
Union force in the Darfur region of Sudan. Although the size of the hybrid
peacekeeping force is yet to be determined, Sudan's consent "in principle" is a
