TALKING POINTS:
programs/intl_instit/UN21/index.html">
A FORK IN THE
ROAD
Amidst the humidity and heat of Washington
in August, the U.N. Minute editorial team would like to take this
opportunity to refocus on our core messages and ideas. These points
should serve as effective context for any U.N.-related communications.
Use these talking points in speeches, meetings, articles,
and other communications to stress the importance of a strong and
effective United Nations.
-
We Shouldn't
Jeopardize a 60-year Relationship That Works. Since we helped to
found the United Nations, we've worked with the U.N. to keep the
peace, expand democracy, fight disease and poverty, and bring
nations together to discuss their differences and find common
ground.
-
We're at a Fork
in the Road. Some people would like us to turn our backs on this
relationship, but at this critical juncture, now is the time to
recommit to the United Nations and show that we're willing to work
with others.
-
The U.N. Needs
Us, and We Need the U.N. We're going to the U.N. for help on
Iran, Darfur, North Korea, as well working there to promote human
rights and defeat terrorism. For its part, the U.N. needs the U.S.
to be a constructive force for reform and bring countries together
to cooperate on the world's most pressing challenges.
